How to watch The Office on Netflix
Honestly, we didn’t expect to miss it as much as we did. THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!
You’ve seen the title, right? Did you really expect another start to this one?!
Everyone has seen The Office or at the very least the memes from The Office Bob from accounting won’t stop putting in his PowerPoints (in the immortal words of Dwight K. Schrute: PowerPoint is boring, Bob). And if you still haven’t heard anything about The Office, Jim, Michael, Pam, and Dwight Schrute, we can only assume you are an alien that’s doing a very poor job blending in.
Ricky Gervais’ brainchild The Office is arguably the best workplace comedy that has ever come out, notwithstanding the extremely strong opinions about the final two seasons. But we’ll leave that for the comment section.
No offense to other great comedy shows, but The Office is in a league of its own. Not only is this probably, nay, definitely the most beloved and acclaimed mockumentary of all time (fight us), this show pretty much started a whole new genre. It was even featured on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 greatest TV shows in 2016 – does it get any bigger than that?
When reports of the show making the jump from Netflix to Peacock surfaced last year, it seemed we would never get to enjoy the Steve Carrell comedy series again. Yeah, we were so wrong about that!
You heard it here first, folks! You can still get the best TV has to offer on Netflix. All you need is to know where to look and how to do that. And we have all the answers for you!
What do we want? – The Office on Netflix! When do we want it? – Pie!
And what’s the best way to watch The Office on Netflix? – with Surfshark!
The Office on Peacock
The Office first aired on NBC during its early years, but since the commercial TV network didn’t have a streaming service, it was willing to let Netflix be a temporary home of the show. In July 2020, NBC Universal launched its streaming service Peacock, and after the contract with Netflix ran out, the show found its way to Peacock.
Thanks to a complementing cast of Steve Carell, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson, Mindy Kaling, John Krasinski, and director Greg Daniels, the show quickly found its way into our hearts.
Most of us didn’t even realize how attached we had become to the lives of the disgruntled Dunder Mifflin Paper Company employees until we found ourselves defending the show when it came up in discussions of the best docu-comedies.
Though the show ended in May 2013 after one hell of a run involving nine seasons, its unmatched touch of hilarity continued on. It is no surprise that we are still looking to relive the risible and unforgettable moments that the show presented.
Is The Office available on Netflix, and in which library?
So here we are. The Office officially moved to Peacock, whose content is restricted to the US, at the start of the year. The move initially meant we could no longer enjoy the four-time Emmy award-winning series on Netflix – or could we?
Fortunately, Peacock isn’t the only place where you can watch everything that happens in Dunder Mifflin. You can currently get all the drama from Michael Scott and crew on Netflix but not through the US library.
Why not the US?
Well – bites teeth hard and makes that famous Steve Carell grimace face – the show is not on Netflix US and probably won’t be for the foreseeable future because of issues to do with rights.
The streaming rights for the show belong with Peacock – and the streaming service is not letting go.
This is an “Oh, my life” moment for all of us, fans out there. But there is hope yet!
So, where is The Office available on Netflix?
Well, the US library of Netflix isn’t getting The Office back anytime soon (or ever). But there are lots of countries out there, and the love for the Dunder Mifflin crew transcends borders and languages.
What we’re trying to say, is the US isn’t the only country that can’t let go of the greatest office romance ever put to TV. And if Netflix can’t have the US, well, you bet your miniature version of cake it can have the rest of the world!
Right now, it’s the Netherlands that’s got The Office all to its happy orange self. Yeah, you read that right. The next time you want to head down to Scranton, take exit Holland on the Netflix Highway.
(Admittedly, that wasn’t our best one, but we’re trying to spread Scranton love as fast as possible).
How can you stream The Office on Netflix?
Getting onto Netflix is kid’s stuff but accessing the Dutch library is the hard part. No worries though, that’s precisely why we’re here.
Now, what you will have to do is make Netflix believe that you are in the Netherlands to access the local catalog. And there’s currently only one way you can do so without relocating – and that’s a VPN.
However, after the whole Netflix banning VPNs apocalypse, there are very few providers that can unblock a library as obscure as the Dutch one. So you are going to have to be smart about the VPN you choose, so you know it won’t fail you, or else you’ll just be stuck with a subscription that doesn’t work for you (and VPNs can get quite expensive these days).
Don’t worry though, you won’t have to go through seven hundred providers that are still flaunting their Netflix unblocking capabilities. That’s our job and we do it well.
The one VPN that will work is Surfshark. And we have a whole bunch of reasons to support this bold claim, apart from binging The Office right now:
- Surfshark is the king shark of VPNs in terms of speeds and quality – both non-negotiables when it comes to unblocking the various Netflix libraries.
While all the other providers got the boot from Netflix, Surfshark managed to bounce back in no time. - The VPN has a bunch of tricks up its sleeve to get the Netflix libraries you want.
If you encounter problems unblocking the library using a direct connection to a Dutch server, you can try Surfshark’s Multihop option that will relay the Dutch server connection through the US. This way you get both the speed, and the Dutch library guarantee. - Besides performance, Surfshark has the nicest customer support. We’re talking Pam levels of nice. So if Netflix pulls one of its blocking tricks again (unlikely), you know they’ll help you out.
Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica
NBC’s streaming service snatched The Office, but that doesn’t mean parting ways with Jim, Pam, and thew others.
So if you find yourself in need of the comforting Electric City gang, you know you have Surfshark to turn to. All you have to do is switch to a Dutch server and enjoy the show. And hey, if The Office relocates again to another Netflix library, you know you are in good hands. If there’s any VPN provider that’s for Netflix figured out, it’s definitely Surfshark.
So get to it and relive the drama, the friendship, and all of Jim’s pranks you won’t find anywhere else.
